Our event with The Conscious Travel Foundation which took place in The Montcalm Marble Arch’s Grand Ballroom within days of the earthquake raised almost £12k which went to the Intrepid Foundation in order to support Education for All and High Atlas Foundation — and we all learned a lot from this travel industry gathering.

Thursday 14 September: Thank you to all who joined us to discuss how to best support Morocco following the devastating earthquake that took place on 8 September — especially our expert speakers who were all so fantastically, well, HELPFUL. You can watch the talks back, below. Speakers at the event included the former British Ambassador to Morocco, Thomas Reilly, patron of Education for All, the charity we made our ‘Changing Worlds In the Atlas Mountains’ documentary about, and CEO of The PC Agency, Paul Charles, who shared takeaways on how travel agents and tour operators can advise customers travelling to Morocco, with many areas in the destination still safe and welcoming visitors. Pavia Rosati, founder of Fathom spoke with Pegi Amarteifio, VP, Global PR & Communications at SLH about how we can be helpful in the first 24 hours of a disaster. Support Education for All’s Earthquake Crisis Appeal or donate to one of these charities in this Conde Nast Traveller article.

We pulled together to raise funds for relief work and to pool our learnings on how we can help destinations in crisis in the short and long term — for Morocco, and for all destinations. Every disaster situation is different — but a few wisdoms are universal, and we’ll be sharing Guidelines for Action: What to Do and How to Think in a Moment of Crisis soon.

Why we all need to support EDUCATION FOR ALL

Thomas Reilly, former British Ambassador to Morocco and trustee of EFA
Paul Charles of The PC Agency and a final reflection on crisis communications and How Can We Be Helpful in the future.

As Morocco’s economy is dependent on its thriving tourism industry it’s incredibly important for visitors to be aware that travel to the destination is still safe and very possible. Despite this tragedy, Morocco will still offer as vibrant and exciting an experience as always, so communication of accurate and up to date information is key to ensuring the tourism industry continues to boom.
